Google New York Chelsea Campus Bedbug Incident
On Sunday, employees at Google’s Chelsea campus in New York City were notified of a potential bedbug outbreak within the office premises. As per an email obtained by WIRED, which was dispatched on behalf of the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety team to all Google employees in New York, exterminators, accompanied by a sniffer dog, arrived at the scene. They discovered credible evidence indicating the presence of bedbugs.
Employees were instructed to refrain from entering the office until the treatment process was fully completed. They were permitted to return on Monday morning. Out of an abundance of caution, Google is conducting additional inspections at other Google campuses in New York, including buildings at the Hudson Square campus.
The company has provided the following guidelines to its employees:
– If employees experience symptoms they believe are associated with possible bedbug exposure, they are advised to submit a report.
– In the event that employees suspect they have seen a bedbug on – site, they should report the sighting to the facilities team.
– Should employees find bedbugs in their homes, they are directed to contact professional exterminators.

Sources have informed WIRED that there are rumors suggesting that a number of large stuffed animals present in Google’s New York offices may be implicated in the bedbug outbreak. However, WIRED was unable to verify this information before publication. Google has declined to provide a comment regarding this matter.
This is not the first instance of a Google office in New York being affected by a bedbug infestation. In 2010, the company’s 9th Avenue offices in Manhattan experienced an outbreak during a broader bedbug infestation across New York City.
